Grump

Charlotte Zolotow Award Highly Recommended Book

By the time my son was born, I had already worked for several years as a lawyer and written and sold one whole collection of poetry—but taking care of my small bundle of energy was my hardest job ever. We had little in the way of child care, and I routinely transformed into a nasty troll about 4pm, when I realized that yet another day would come and go without even the tiniest nap. Babies are supposed to sleep a lot, I kept telling myself—so why won’t HE? Things turned out fine in the end, of course. But I wish I had been a bit better at caging the grump in me!

“New mothers will appreciate this as much as their babies…the words with their rhythmic bumps and gentle grumps are just right for lapsit sharing.”
